Increased coverage of journals through Science Direct

The U of C library has increased coverage of a number of journals in the social sciences and sciences. Access to these journals is available through the library catalogue. Some of the added journals include:

• Journal of Aging Studies: 1987-1994
• Journal of Criminal Justice: 1973-1994
• Social Networks: 1978-1994
• Social Science and Medicine: 1967-1977, 1982-1994
• Technology in Society: 1979-1994

SocIndex - New Research Database now available

Here is a new database where you may find resources related to your research and course areas. This database is a good complement to Sociological Abstracts.

SocINDEX with Full Text, is a comprehensive sociology research database. The index features more than 1,300,000 records with subject headings. Searchable cited references are also provided. SocINDEX with Full Text offers coverage from all subdisciplines of sociology, including abortion, anthropology, criminology, criminal justice, cultural sociology, demography, economic development, ethnic & racial studies, gender studies, marriage & family, politics, religion, rural sociology, social psychology, social structure, social work, sociological theory, sociology of education, substance abuse, urban studies, violence, welfare, and many others.

Ebrary - Access to Electronic Books

The U of C community now has access to 20,000 electronic books through ebrary. Each of the books will appear in the catalogue but for now, I'll provide a direct link. You can search and read books in the ebrary collection without being registered but you will not have access to the enhanced features so I encourage you to register. If you have not access ebrary previously, you will be prompted to download the ebrary reader.

Features:

1. Personal Bookshelf - allows you to keep track of the books that are of most interest to you.
2. Searching - search the text within a book.
3. Bookmarks - remembers the important parts of the book.
4. Highlighting - highlight key words or phrases.
5. Notes - add comments and thoughts to parts of the book.

MacKimmie Reserve Services Submission Deadline - September 15

Reserve Services would like to remind you that the submission deadline for New Library Material for the Winter Session is September 15, 2005. To ensure ample time for submitting and receiving materials for this session, all course lists should be in our office no later than September 15.

Deadlines - Winter Session

15 September 2005 for New Library Material (books that the library purchases for Reserve)

15 October 2005 for Allectra - Electronic Reserves and (Books already in our collection)

31 October 2005 (or two weeks before required during the term) for Library Material

15 December 2005 (or 7 working days before needed during the term) for Personal Copies
